Miss Thick DUT 2019: Who is the thickest of them all?
The Central Housing Committee with Student Housing and Reslife hosted Miss Thick DUT at the Fred Crookes Sport Centre at the Durban University of Technology on Saturday, 07 September 2019. MC’s for the evening were the charismatic Radio Gee and Radio DUT presenter Bright.
Here are some of the highlights from the event:
Winners: contestants consisted of a total of 24 students from Pietermaritzburg and Durban campuses.
Ms Thick 2019: Sbahle Mhlophe
1st Princess: Gugulethu Hadebe
2nd Princess: Thandiwe Zondi
Performances: The line-up included Afrotainment singer Joocy and rap star Duncan who performed all his popular hits and was later joined on stage by four-piece band, Thee Legacy. DJ Samkelo Houzin, DJ Raybel, Benzy Que and many others kept the audience dancing the entire night.
Judges: The judging panel consisted of former Miss DUT Zabelo Hlabisa, Sifiso ‘Somdiva’ Xulu, Luyanda Ndlovu and Phelelisiwe Ngcobo, who were responsible for selecting the winner.
Prizes: winners walked away with, Crowns from Lovisa, Designer dresses from Agape Love Designs worth R2000 and gadgets beauty products from Signature.
CHC President Ntsikelelo Nhlenyama said that Ms Thick is more than a beauty pageant but a way to show that beauty is diverse.
“Miss Thick is very diverse because women of different weight can enter, it is a way of embracing diversity. The benefit of Miss Thick pageant is to try and raise issues of plus size women in society, so that they are not stigmatised with the false notion that plus size women are unhealthy or obese,” he said.
