Madrid now have an advantage going to Germany for the second leg.
The Bavarians dominated the first half, showing signs that they wanted to equalize, but Madrid managed to hold on to their one nil lead. Madrid started to show composure, as they were more comfortable on the ball.
The world’s best player Cristiano Ronaldo had few promising shots saved by the goalkeeper before he was taken off because of fitness levels as he was coming back from an ankle injury.
On Tuesday, Chelsea had he advantage after they held Athletico Madrid to 0-0 draw in Spain.
Jose Mourinho’s side did not look eager to score as they were defending throughout the game. Chelsea goalkeeper Peter Cech was ruled out for the rest of the season after he injured his elbow just 15 minutes into the game. John Terry also left the field limping.
While they have the advantage, things can still go awry the Blues as some of their key players are suspended, such captain Frank Lampard and midfielder John Obi Mikel, and will not play the second leg.
