BUSY SCHEDULE FOR NATIONAL WOMEN’S CRICKET

Cricket South Africa on Wednesday announced the schedule of the national women’s cricket, including two home international series for the Momentum Proteas Women.
In a three-match T20, the national team will host Bangladesh in Potchefstroom from the 12th to 15th September. On the 18th, they will play a warm up match at Olympia Park in Rustenburg. Sahara Willowmoore, Bidvest Wanderers and Supersport Park are the venues for the three-match One Day International to be played from the 22 to 24 on the same month.
Potchefstroom will once again host the three-match ODI and T20 series between the home side and Sri Lanka from the 18th October to the 4th of November.
CSA Senior Cricket Manager, Max Jordaan, believes that these matches will prepare them for the ICC Women’s World T20 taking place in Bangladesh in a few months.
“This year will be very special for our team. For them to play two fully fledged national teams so close to the World T20 is great preparation for us,” Jordaan said in a statement released by CSA on Wednesday.
The country’s women’s emerging squad will also be in action this summer. They will host the England women’s under-19 team from 11th to the 19th of October in Potchefstroom. This is the team’s first series on home soil. They have had more playing opportunities this past season than in recent years, having completed a tour to Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
They will also play two 50-over warm up matches against Sri Lanka to cap off their preparation for the England tour.
Jordaan said that if CSA is to groom a new crop of competitive international players, then it is important that the players get as much international cricket exposure as possible.
Meanwhile, CSA released the Women’s Provincial League fixtures. Western Province will defend their title against the country’s top provincial sides.
The league starts with the Eastern Cape taking on North West and Mpumalanga going up against Gauteng on 28 September.
Western Province captain, Alexis le Breton said, “We’re looking forward to it. Our preparation is on track and we want to defend our title successfully.”
