DABEKA SPORTING FC IS NO MORE
It has been confirmed that Dabeka Sporting Football Club (FC) from Clermont playing in the South African Football Association (SAFA), KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League status sale was granted by SAFA.
Iziko reported a few weeks back that the club had been sold but former boss, Thabani Khoza rubbished the claims and said that he knew nothing relating to the club being sold.
Dabeka Sporting FC will now be known as Westville Classics, Kwenzakwakhe Ngwenya representing SAFA in the region confirmed the news.
“The club is now in the hands of Mr. Sthembiso Mabaso who will now be the chairman,” Ngwenya said.
Sthembiso Mabaso is a businessman who was raised in uMlazi township but lives in Westville. Westville Classics will be coached by Ntokozo Bhengu assisted by Lungelo Mbambo in the upcoming season of 2021/22 season.
Speaking to Iziko, the clubs former photographer, Lonwabo Zakuza said that he’d had mixed feelings when he heard the news.
“I was confused, heartbroken and stressed. I understand that football is a business that hardly makes profit, but I was not expecting to hear that such a big team would be sold. I was interested to know what would happen to the players because I worked with them, almost daily. If amajita (the guys) are happy so, am I,” Zakuza said.
He alluded that there was joy as the players were able to get their salaries on time.
“I was happy that Dabeka managed to pay them in time even though my brand has vanished. I will continue to freelance till I get a better team than Dabeka,” Zakuza added.
