Proteas overpowered Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to claim T20 series clean sweep
The Proteas have defeated Sri Lanka by a massive 10-wicket in the third and final Twenty 20 (T20) match in Colombo, on Tuesday.
This comes after Proteas defeated Sri Lanka by 9-wicket securing a series victory and sealed
a 2-0 lead in the second T20 match, on Sunday.
In a game of cricket, regardless of any formats, an over is equal to six balls which one bowler can ball and the next 6 balls are bowled by another bowler, as Iziko previously explained.
A T20 is a shortened game format of cricket which two teams are restricted to play a maximum of 20 overs each. Unlike, the One Day International (ODI) which is restricted to a maximum of 50 overs.
The hosts, Sri Lanka elected to bat putting the visitors to ball first after winning the toss. Due to the stellar balling and fielding from Proteas, Sri Lanka were restricted to a total of 120 runs for 8 after playing 20 overs (120 balls), thanks to the excellent balling from Bjorn Fortuin and Kagiso Rabada who both took two wickets. This means Proteas needed to trail 120 more runs to win.
In chasing a total of 121 runs, Proteas’ top order batmen Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks made a record breaking opening partnership stand of 121 off 88 balls, which means they only played 14.4 overs.
Furthermore, the partnership of de Kock and Hendricks secured a victory of 10 whopping wickets with still 32 balls remaining.
A phenomenal all-round performance places the Proteas to a storm of a 3-0 T20 series clean sweep.
Meanwhile, renowned Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
