Roger De Sa confirms move to Egypt
The former Orlando Pirates Coach, Roger De Sa, has confirmed that the Egyptian national team has requested him to join their technical staff as an assistant coach of Carlos Queiroz.
The two coaches, Roger De Sa and Carlos Queiroz have previously worked together when Queiroz led the Bafana Bafana team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup between 2000 and 2002. The Egyptian national team, also known as ‘Pharos’ is expected to announce Roger De Sa’ by next week, as the South African coach disclosed on eNCA news channel, that he would depart on Monday morning.
“I got a call a week ago from Queiroz, and we chatted a lot about it. So, yeah, I’m flying out on Monday, and we will probably start straight away because we are playing with Libya, I think on 06 October,” Roger said.
Now, with the travel of Roger De Sa, South Africa is expected to have three coaches who are working in Egypt. Namely Pitso Mosimane, Kevin Johnson, both, pairing at Al Ahly, and Roger De Sa in the Egyptian national team.
“I think it started way back when I was at Pirates. If I go back, the interest started there. There were a lot of talks of somebody going out there. I got approached a few times. I think Eric Tinkler was also tapped a few times. So, this might be the beginning, and of course with Pitso going up and winning the Champions League. You know, I think that might have caused the ball rolling, and who knows, maybe we might get a few more,” Roger said.
