The Dube Birds make their return into the PSL
After making an exit in the ABSA Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the season of 2014/5 Moroka Swallows have made their comeback.
On Sunday, Swallows was able to defeat TSHAKHUMA TSHA MADZIVHANDILA F.C. (TTM) in the National First Division (NFD) League and was crowned Glad Africa champions.
This meant that they automatically qualify to return to the PSL after a six year long spell, leaving behind Ajax Cape Town which had the same points but due to goal difference will have to fight their way back in the playoffs to secure a spot in the PSL.
Swallows showed great tenacity in their league run by winning all of their last five games and scoring enough goals to keep them on top of the log.
Many football fans were pleased to hear about their promotion since Moroka Swallows is one of the most renowned soccer clubs in South Africa
Thabo Moroka, Swallows fanatic, said that he is over the moon about the win. “It has brought back my love for soccer. It was hard watching the game without having my favorite team to watch. This game reminds of the time Swallows won the Mainstay Cup after a win against Orlando Pirates,” he said.
After securing their 3-0 win against TTM, Swallows coach, Brandon Truter, when interviewed by Super-sport said that the team expected that TTM would try and play from the back. “Counter-pressing is in our DNA, that’s works for us and that’s what worked today. We turned over a few goals there in the attacking turn and punished them,” he said.
