Zimbabwe held Banyana Banyana to a 1-1 draw in a fiercely contested international friendly match played at the Sinaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
They both went to this game coming from easy victories over Mozambique and Zambia respectively.
Banyana dominated the game from the early stages which led to Noko Matlou scoring a goal which was disallowed for offside. The questionable decision by the referee came in the 10th minute when Matlou headed in what seemed as a perfect goal. That was not the only goal that was ruled to be offside; Zimbabwe’s goal was disallowed on questionable circumstances.
Zimbabwe also got an early chance as they were awarded a free kick just outside the box but failed to utilise it, as the ball was blasted wide.
Former Banyana captain, Amanda Dlamini, also got a chance in the 13th minutes but her attempt was cleared off the line by the industrious Zimbabwean defense.
The packed stadium was stunned into silence before half-time when Rudo Neshamba headed in one pass Dlamini to put visitors on the lead. The move started from the left with a long ball played in and the Banyana defense could not clear, allowing Neshamba to score.Dlamini scored her 19thgoal of the national team when she collected the ball played by Vilakazi to level the score.
Melody Musasa was the first one to go to refers book when she was shown the yellow card for a nasty tackle on Amanda in 68th minutes.
Janine van Wyk saved Banyana in the 66th minute when she putted pressure on Nashamba who proved to be a real nuisance for the home side, each time she was in position of the ball, forcing her to shoot way over the bar.
Both teams got numerous chances towards the end of the game but failed to convert them.
