Today marked the beginning of the 2013 eThekwini Municipality’s Sustainable Living Exhibition where exhibitors registered to showcase ways in which people can live a more sustainable lifestyle.
The exhibition provides a platform for businesses, municipalities, schools and the community to display and share innovations and ideas on sustainable living.
“People have become so used to the conveniences provided by modern technology that they have forgotten about the simple ways of doing things. Things like starting your own food garden can sustain a family at little cost,” said Senior Manager for Long Term Planning, Bongumusa Zondo.
The exhibition commenced Friday and will close on Sunday. The exhibition is hosted by the eThekwini Municipality together with the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
This is the fourth anniversary of the annual Sustainable Living Exhibition in Durban. Schools came in numbers to tour and learn on sustaining the environment. The KZN Science Centre partnered with Imagine Durban to coordinate and facilitate all the children’s educational activities.
The exhibition launched activities such as a fashion show using recyclable material, environmental movie screenings and schools promoting sustainable living. Locals are encouraged to use organic food gardening and permaculture, water and energy saving products.
