Two suspects aged 18 and 19 were arrested yesterday in connection to a murder on Sunday at the Durban Day Music Festival in Moses Mabhida Stadium.
According to witnesses, the stabbing of the teenager happened around 7 pm just before a local rapper performed.
It is alleged that an argument broke out between two groups from the Wentworth and Newlands East areas.
One of the revellers Mthokozisi Dladla said, “These groups were allegedly insulting each other when one of the men stabbed the deceased in the chest. After stabbing him, the suspect
dropped the knife and fled whilst his friend kicked the victim,” said Dladla.
According to the police who were on the scene, the victim was found dead in a pool of blood.
East Coast Radio reported that the stabbing was an isolated incident.
Anisa Ussuph, East Coast Radio’s spokeswoman said on air, “We as organisers are deeply concerned and we are doing everything we can to establish the facts.”
“We are working closely with authorities on this isolated incident and thank everyone for their patience until we know more,” said Ussuph.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said that he saw the teenager running for help before he collapsed near his friends.
The deceased’s mother was too shocked to speak about what happened and could not be reached for comment.
The murder suspects were denied bail and detained at the Durban Central police station.
They will be charged with murder and are expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate court soon.
